Mr. Alcorn - 5-12 Vocal & Instrumental Music
I knew from an early age that I wanted to be a music teacher. I started taking piano & voice lessons at age 10 from a grand lady, Ina Mae Sanders, who was a former member of the Chicago Civic Opera company. I graduated from Hay Springs High School in 1977. In 1979 I married Echo Stone, my best friend then, and now after 34 years! I started my teaching career in 1981 after graduating from Chadron State College. My first job was K-12 music at Stuart, NE for 4 years, then on to 12 years as 7-12 Vocal Music at Albion, NE. We had our daughter Stephanie in 1988. She almost died that fall and ended up in Children’s Hospital in Omaha. Mitchell was also born in Albion in 1993. Because of Stephanie’s special education needs we decided we needed to move to a larger city. We chose Grand Island, because Echo could get a job there at Farm Credit Services. I then taught K-12 Music at Kenesaw for 2 years. The job at Doniphan-Trumbull came open in 1999, and I was hired! I’ve been here at DTPS since then! It’s been a great fit for me, I always tell people I am the choir director, and I get along good with the band director, or vise-verse since I’m both! Ha, Ha!
